Artist Notes
Hobart B. Jacobs (1851–1935) was an American painter celebrated for his Impressionist landscapes. Born in New Berlin, New York, he pursued artistic studies at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and furthered his education in Florence, Italy. Upon returning to the United States, Jacobs dedicated a significant portion of his career to art education, serving as the art supervisor for the Greenwich Public Schools in Connecticut. After retiring in the 1920s, he relocated to Palo Alto, California, where he actively participated in the local art scene, exhibiting his works with the Palo Alto Art Club. Following the passing of his wife in 1924, Jacobs returned to Greenwich, Connecticut, where he remained until his death in 1935.
Jacobs' oeuvre primarily comprises Impressionist landscapes, often depicting coastal scenes and bucolic settings. His paintings continue to be appreciated for their tranquil portrayal of nature. See less
