Frederick Herman Immer (1884–1939) was a German-born American painter renowned for his scenic, mural, and easel works. Born in Ditzumerverlaat, East Friesland, Germany, he was the son of Rev. Carl and Flora (Eilers) Immer. Initially aspiring to a military career, Immer's path shifted when his family chose not to purchase an officer's commission for him in the Kaiser's Army. This decision led him to immigrate to the United States in August 1902 at the age of 18.
Upon arriving in America, Immer resided in Waco, Nebraska, until 1918. During this period, he traveled extensively, painting murals and stage scenery in theaters across cities like St. Louis, Portland, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Orlando, and Jacksonville. In 1918, he established his own scenery painting business in Jacksonville, Florida, while continuing to spend summers in the northern states, particularly Michigan. Immer passed away in 1939 in Pentwater, Michigan.
His paintings often feature serene natural scenes, with a particular emphasis on maritime subjects and solitary trees by the ocean. Immer's contributions to scenic and mural painting, especially in theaters during the early 20th century, reflect his versatility and dedication to the arts. See less
