an artist known for his exquisite drawings - many are sketches for his larger oil paintings or other works - this piece is compelling because its image emerges from just a few graceful lines, curves and shading. Its beauty lies in its simplicity and the purity of the lines. This work is in good overall condition with some evident, characterful fading. The handwriting on the drawing is extremely faint, partly overwritten by rubbing, and written in a flowing early-20th-century cursive that is notoriously hard to decipher, yet beautiful at the same time.
