This is a hand-carved wooden Akuaba doll. These statues are significant in the culture of the Ashanti people of Ghana.
They are traditionally associated with fertility and good luck, carried by women on their backs and believed it to bring pregnancy and a healthy childbirth. The Ashanti women would dress up the embryo appearing figure with clothes and adorn with jewelry as role teaching. Great collector's piece with deep symbolism. From my research, this piece appears to be unique, in that the central feminine has young ones clinging to the lower portion of the sculpture
