A remarkable and historically significant collection for lovers of design, architecture, and early 20th-century American landscapes. This is a set of four custom-bound leather spine volumes of Landscape Architecture Magazine, dating from the 1930s to early 1940s — a period considered the golden age of American landscape design.
The collection includes:
Volume 21 (1930–1931)
Volume 22–23 (1931–1932)
Volume 24–25 (1933–1935)
Volume 30–31 (1939–1941)
Each volume is richly illustrated with photographs, project plans, and diagrams documenting high-profile residential, civic, and institutional landscape projects of the period, offering a unique window into the evolving aesthetics of American outdoor spaces between the World Wars.
What makes this set especially compelling is its exceptional provenance. Each volume bears the name Franz A. Aust (1885–1963), a noted American landscape architect, educator, and contemporary of Frank Lloyd Wright and Jens Jensen. Aust served as a professor at the University of Wisconsin and was an influential figure in the development of regionalist landscape architecture. His connection to Taliesin and Jensen’s Prairie Club places these books at the heart of early 20th-century American design history.
A rare chance to own both a design archive and a piece of landscape architectural heritage — perfect for collectors, scholars, or those with an eye for beautifully crafted vintage books.
Good condition with tight bindings. Age-related wear with signs of use, please review photos. Each volume measures between 10-11 inches high, 8.5 inches wide and 1.25-1.75 inches deep.
