Martin Visser One-Off Boomerang Sofa in Solid Wengé and Black Leather The Netherlands 1970 A very special and one-off boomerang style sofa by Martin Visser, one of the most renowned Dutch 20th century furniture designers. Designed and made specifically for his own brother Geertjan Visser (1931-2010). An important piece of Dutch design history. Comes directly from the family: the perfect provenance. Made in The Netherlands, around 1970. Featuring a very distinct curved boomerang style design on a frame of a strong constructivist nature, this sofa in black leather and solid wengé is a truly unique design. The leather parts seemingly float on three beautifully designed legs in solid wengé and the backrest elegantly curls backwards. The asymmetrical and geometrically profound shapes make for a unique sofa; interesting from every view point and a highly refined and complex design. About Martin Visser Martin Visser (1922-2009) was a Dutch designer and art collector. Together with his brother Geertjan, sister Adri, his first wive Mia and second wive Joke van der Heijden, he collected an extensive and highly influential collection of modern and avant garde art. This collection - more than 400 art pieces including works by Sol LeWitt, Anselm Kiefer, Lucio Fontana, Dan Flavin, Donald Judd, Ellsworth Kelly, Panamarenko, Sigmar Polke, his other brother Carel Visser and many others - was acquired by the famous Kröller-Müller museum in Otterloo, The Netherlands, and these works are housed and shown in a dedicated wing of the museum. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
issues arising from misattribution
