"The Source", likely dating from the 1950s or 1960s, the artist employs a post-impressionist or modernist style reminiscent of artists like Émile Bernard or Paul Gauguin, using flat planes of color and defined outlines.
The artwork depicts a group of approximately a dozen figures gathered in a hilly, abstracted landscape. The subjects appear to be women and a few men, some with their hands clasped in what could be prayer or deep conversation. The scene evokes a sense of community, contemplation, or perhaps a religious gathering.
The palette is rich and earthy, featuring contrasting bold colors such as deep reds, vibrant blues, white, black, and various shades of ochre, green, and brown in the background.
Signature: The artwork is signed by the artist in the bottom left corner, by Katherine Bergstrom-Catriona. The piece is titled and dated on the back. An envelope on the back is included that contains an email from the artist describing the origin of the work and her inspiration.
The painting is presented in a classic, ornate gold-tone frame, which complements the warm tones of the artwork. Canvas is 18 x 24. Frame is 2.25"W.
