Pair of 19th century Spanish Colonial brass equestrian slipper stirrups. Crafted in South America by a skilled metalworker and finely cast in brass, they are ornately decorated with anthemion style plume motifs with central floral medallions, and the theme is continued throughout. These stirrups were part of the elaborate tack which reflected the importance of the horse in South American Spanish culture, especially during celebrations, as well as providing foot protection when riding through brush. Shaped like a shoe, they provided a solid base crucial for stability when riding.
Now highly collectible, they are unique décor items that may be hung as a wall pocket for a small plant or dried flowers and are an excellent companion to a book display. Great gift for the collector or equestrian enthusiast.
