The work is characterized by strong, dark lines and heavy shading, conveying a somberness and a sense of psychological depth. The artwork is composed of two main panels that connect vertically, each panel spanning two canvases. The left panel features a large, outlined human figure appearing to be mounted on a cross as several birds have settled on the figure. There are two very faint but empty crosses in the background alluding to the Crucifixion. Below are three skeletal figures in fetal positions. It is unclear as to whether they are on the surface or buried underground. The right panel displays a large crowd of shrouded skeletal figures surrounding a more prominent skeletal figure in the center. The prominent figure appears to have a halo upon its head. This artwork is unsigned but takes inspiration from the works of artists like Jasper Johns and Magdalena Abakanowicz. See less
