This magnificent antique Persian Sarouk Mohajeran carpet is an exceptional example of the finest weaving tradition from the Mohajeran village near Sarouk. Woven around 1910, during the golden age of Mohajeran production, it represents one of the highest grades of Sarouk weaving, prized for its lustrous hand-spun wool, dense construction, elegant floral drawing, and remarkable durability. Mohajeran carpets are generally considered finer and more desirable than standard Sarouk carpets of the same period.
The carpet displays a beautifully balanced all-over floral composition set on a luminous raspberry-red field. Instead of relying on a dominant central medallion, the design features repeating floral bouquets, stylized palmettes, flowering urns, and graceful scrolling vines arranged with remarkable symmetry. This sophisticated pattern creates an elegant sense of movement while maintaining the spacious character that distinguishes the finest early Mohajeran carpets.
A richly ornamented midnight-blue main border frames the field with alternating palmettes, rosettes, and scrolling floral vines, providing dramatic contrast to the vibrant red ground. The harmonious palette combines glowing raspberry red, deep indigo blue, ivory, soft sky blue, camel, and olive accents, all derived from high-quality natural dyes that have mellowed beautifully over more than a century.
The wool is exceptionally soft, dense, and silky, producing the luxurious handle and luminous surface for which Mohajeran carpets are famous. The weave is crisp and finely executed, allowing excellent definition throughout the intricate floral design. Remaining in very good condition, with an even pile and strong structural integrity, this carpet retains outstanding decorative appeal and collector value.
Its impressive size makes it ideal for a grand living room, library, dining room, or estate residence, where its refined elegance and vibrant colors can be fully appreciated.
