Up for sale is a very rare antique 19th century hand carved Japanese Meiji panther sculpture.
It's a large life-sized statue carved out of solid burl wood measuring 28 inches long by 21 inches tall by 19 inches wide.
The piece is carved with beautiful stylized detailing, has acquired a nice patina from age, and hand painted accents on the face.
The figure has a long tail and stands on a natural wooden base with bark at the edge.
It's very well made and is a dense, heavy piece of wood that has a lovely sheen finish.
The sculpture is in nice condition, it has a slight chip to the tip of the right ear.
The front leg also has two hairlines or inclusions to the wood as shown in photos.
