Eugène Victor Bourgeois was born in Paris on June 5, 1855, and died in Saint-Cast-le-Guildo on June 5, 1909. A self-taught French painter, illustrator, and poster artist, Eugène Bourgeois made his debut at the Salon of 1874. He exhibited there again in 1880, as well as at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1881, where he received an honorable mention that year, followed by a third-class medal in 1885. He also received bronze medals at the Universal Expositions of 1889 and 1900. He was among the painters who exhibited hors concours at the Salon des Artistes Français.

His paintings are appreciated for their use of light colors. He painted landscapes in Normandy, Brittany, the Île-de-France region, the Pyrenees, the Camargue, Italy, and North Africa.
