Georges Prestat was a 20th-century French painter who painted numerous landscapes. His still lifes are less common, and the format of this bouquet of irises makes it a rarer painting. Trained at the École des Beaux-Arts in Amiens, Georges Prestat began his career working for the postal service. Drawn to Africa, he moved to Libreville, Gabon. He then went to Brazzaville and finally to Bangui in the Central African Republic, where he established a taxidermy school and left his postal job. At the same time, he was commissioned to design postage stamps for the Central African Republic and matchbox decorations.

He returned to France in 1969 to exhibit his oil paintings, watercolors, and sculptures. Numerous exhibitions followed in Germany, the Netherlands, and several Northern European countries.

He founded a private museum in Magny-Cours, which displays everything he brought back from Africa (African art, jewelry, animal skins, sculptures, etc.). This piece has an attribution mark,
