A pair of large brass altar candlesticks of Vietnamese origin, dating from the 20th century.
These impressive pieces feature turned shafts with flowing profiles, punctuated by elegant bulges and transitions, resting on stepped circular bases that ensure excellent stability.
The circular cups, arranged according to the traditional method (engraved convex face upwards), are decorated with fine, turned concentric lines. This type of candlestick was intended for ritual use, particularly on domestic or religious altars.
A comparable example, held at the Cernuschi Museum – Museum of Asian Arts of the City of Paris, illustrates the typology and use of this type of Vietnamese brass candlestick in the 20th century.
The brass now displays a uniform, aged patina with warm, golden tones, attesting to natural use and aging, without excessive restoration. ________________________________________
