Charlotte Perriand was born in Paris in 1903 and later studied at the school of the Union Central des Arts Décoratifs. Inspired by Le Corbusier's architectural treatises, she convinced him in 1927 to let her work for him. Her tasks included producing prototypes and presenting the studio's designs to the public. Together with Pierre Jeanneret, Perriand developed a series of tubular steel chairs that were—then as now—considered a symbol of the machine age.
In 1940, she traveled to Japan as an official industrial design consultant, but after Japan entered the war, she was stranded in Vietnam from 1942 to 1946. Perriand used her time in exile to learn local weaving and woodworking techniques. Upon her return to France, she intended to integrate straw and bamboo into modern design.
Back in France, Perriand continued to work with Le Corbusier and Prouvé. She made a significant contribution to Le Corbusier's Unité d'Habitation design in Marseille. Until her death in 1999, Perriand remained an influential figure in modernism. I have official proof of authenticity such as vintage catalogs,
