The SIX moving parts and quality are the genius of this design, which is still in production by De Sede This sofa is a master of transformation- with two easy motions it smoothly transforms from sofa to double armchair. The 2 seat-sections are fitted on a manual-turning mechanism- they rotate around from the side to the front. The armrest has a ratchet joint at each end which is also manually adjustable. This means the armrest can also become a footrest (with a maximum load 50 kg). The 2 back-sections tilt backwards (about half-way down) with a gas spring that’s continuously adjustable. You can also slide the 2 seat-sections around into sofa-position and lay each armrest out completely flat to create a surface that’s long enough for anyone to sleep on (233cm long). Use the racket joint at the armrest to pull it up on one side to create a pillow head-rest when it’s in bed-position. All these modifications require little effort, no screws, bolts or hinges etc to adjust, even a child is strong enough to do it.
This piece was purchased in ~2000 (price then was 10K USD) and has been lightly used by the same couple since then. Current price new from De Sede is ~18K but that does not included shipping from Switzerland.
Leather is deep black and premium quality, very soft. Cushions are comfortably soft. Construction is durable with stainless steel frame and legs. Excellent condition, no major scratches or tears. Authenticity indicated by the embossed material on the underside of the piece. All moving parts work exactly as they should. The cushioning shows no sagging or degradation. The leather shows only very minor defects that require close inspection to see. All leather stitching intact.
