About the Artist:
Judith (or Jehudith) Sobel (1924–2012) was a Polish-American painter whose work served as a bridge between European Modernism and the American Landscape traditions. Sobel was an active and respected member of the Woodstock Art Colony from the 1960s onward, involved with the Woodstock Artists Association and Museum (WAAM) and exhibiting at local venues like the Rudolph Gallery and the Ann Leonard Gallery.

Before arriving in Woodstock, Sobel studied in Poland under famous Constructivists and lived in Israel and Paris, absorbing influences from Cubism and Expressionism. She both exhibited and was collected by the five major art museums of Israel including the Museum of Modern Art at Haifa while living in Paris in the 1940s. She moved to New York City in 1956, exhibiting her work in the prestigious ACA Gallery, the New Masters Gallery, the Jewish Museum (NY), City College of New York and in other galleries and art institutions. Her work is in many private collections and museums including the Museum of Modern Art at Lodz, Poland, the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, and The Jewish Museum (NY). See less
