The composition depicts the newborn Virgin (Maria Bambina) in swaddling clothes, lying on a raised cradle decorated with embossed gold paper. The figurine, finely finished with a wax-effect painted face, wears a fabric dress with gold trimmings and is surrounded by a crown of artificial flowers and foliage. The ensemble rests on an oval wooden base covered in red velvet and is topped with a transparent protective dome.
