Oil on Canvas Still Life of a Kitchen Scene
A serene still life by Swiss artist Kaspar Ilg, circa 1960’s. Deeply saturated jewel tones lend this piece a warmth that is contrasted by the airy lavenders and periwinkles in the background. The brushwork is loose and layered, emphasizing the forms of the vessels and the fruits through the use of color rather than through definitive lines. Painted on a beautiful block-printed blue and white canvas.
Signed en verso and has his official estate stamp.
19.75" h x 21.675" w
Has minor age-related wear. Some light fraying to edges of canvas, and one tiny little hole, about the size of a pinprick, at the top of the goblet. Not very noticeable, overall very good vintage condition.

About the Artist:
Kaspar Ilg (1921-2011)- was a Swiss painter, collector, and educator who spent his entire lifetime surrounded by the arts.
Ilg was born in Berlin, Germany, and raised in Switzerland by a dancer mother and writer father. He studied at the Zurich School of Applied Arts where he studied under prominent artists, Max and Ernst Gubler. Ilg went on to become a freelance artist and art teacher, and married his wife, Anita, a piano teacher, in 1956. He was best known for his landscapes and still lifes, and while he primarily worked with oils, he liked to experiment with unique materials. His pieces were often created on non-traditional surfaces like collected fabrics and found wood and cardboard. Ilg’s work has been widely honored and exhibited throughout Switzerland and Germany.
In addition to his artistic practice, Ilg was an avid art collector. He dedicated much of his life to curating an impressive personal collection, as well as curating for others, focusing primarily on Swiss artists, as well as notable names in German and French Impressionism and Expressionism. In 2018, much of his collection was donated by his estate to the the Museum zu Allerheiligen in Schaffhausen, Switzerland.
