This 19th-century English wooden box is made from richly grained rosewood marquetry and accented with mother-of-pearl and pewter (or silver) … Read more This 19th-century English wooden box is made from richly grained rosewood marquetry and accented with mother-of-pearl and pewter (or silver) inlays on the lid and escutcheon. Though it features a keyhole, the box no longer locks. The interior is lined (probably a later addition) with "carta marmorizzata", or marbled paper. There is some damage on box edges and corners, water marks on back side, and there seems to have been an earlier veneer repair on the back right side as well (photographed). The lid no longer quite lines up with the base due to some warping with age (also photographed). This is a beautiful and special piece for your study, dressing table or a collector's display. Condition and patina consistent with age. Dimensions: 12 in wide, 9" deep, 4.75 in high. See less
