A striking vintage silver-plated serving bowl designed and handcrafted in Taxco, Mexico by celebrated artist Emilia Castillo. Made of solid copper and finished with a hand-hammered silver plate, the bowl features a dramatic wide rim inlaid with richly variegated malachite—a material synonymous with Castillo’s organic, luxurious aesthetic.
This sculptural two-handled form showcases the fluid shapes and artisan techniques that have made Emilia Castillo one of the most recognized contemporary voices in Taxco’s silversmithing tradition. The piece retains its full hallmark:
“Emilia Castillo, Mexico, M.R., Plateado, TO-85.”
Emilia Castillo is part of one of Mexico’s most influential artistic dynasties. She is the daughter of Antonio Castillo, one of the founding brothers of the legendary Los Castillo workshop—an atelier that reshaped 20th-century Mexican design and elevated Taxco into a global center of innovative silverwork. Emilia carried this legacy forward, developing her own whimsical language through natural motifs, stone inlays, sculptural silhouettes, and handwrought metal.
This bowl presents beautifully despite visible signs of age and use, including scratches, nicks, plating loss, malachite wear, and patina, all consistent with handcrafted vintage Taxco pieces.
We currently have four bowls available, each in different vintage condition. Please inquire for group pricing or to select your preferred examples.
