Remarkable amsterdam school accent or lamp table by l. J. Verweij for “intima” amsterdam, 1920s. The piece still carries its original metal manufacturer's plate - ''intima'' - once located in amsterdam on leidschestraat 52, a rarely encountered brand. Verweij designed furniture for intima.
intima woninginrichting (interior furnishing) was known for its refined but honest modern interiors - furniture that was built to last. A 1920s article praised the firm’s use of fine woods, and collaborations with leading dutch designers such as winkelman, dr. H. P. Berlage, and jaap gidding.
the sculptural design of the table shows verweij’s architectural sense of balance: three arched oak legs elegantly meet at a central spindle and taper into macassar-ebony “dipped” feet, a refined detail also seen on a credenza he designed. Compact in scale yet full of character, this table works equally as an accent table, a lamp table or as a side table in a living space. A very eye catching, decorative example of dutch art deco design, with a hint of the infectiously bizarreness of the amsterdam school.
the condition of the table is excellent, it has been expertly restored with respect to its originality. This piece has an attribution mark,
