This combination results in a clear and restrained composition that marks the transition from Scandinavian-oriented design to an international modern idiom. The sideboard was designed by Kho Liang Ie for Fristho Meubelfabriek in Franeker and forms part of the Modulus series, which builds on ideas developed earlier in the Modernart series by William Watting. In this period, Kho Liang Ie is described as artistic director and designer at Fristho, responsible for the progressive design direction of the late 1950s, including the Modulus series. The series was presented exclusively by Arflex Milano in 1959 and is regarded as one of the most innovative lines within the Fristho collection. Teak doors alternate with white fronts, while the refined black steel V-shaped base allows the volume to appear visually light.
