To ensure its authenticity and collectible value, every piece is individually signed and numbered by the artists. The ino mirror is crafted from 0.8 mm polished aluminum, precisely milled to shape. Its oval slats feature a central fold, adding structural strength to the ultra-thin material. Together, the slats form a bold, faceted composition, reminiscent of a sculpted gemstone. A mirror is not only showing a reflection of it’s surrounding, it copies of what we intend to see as reality. Martens & visser’s mirror is instead creating a new image, which is added to the reality. Ino is constructed out of oval shaped and bended mirrors, creating a distorted reflection of what we would suspect. Sustainability plays a vital role in martens & visser’s work. The studio works with materials by applying them in a pure way, without unnecessary additions. This approach gives seemingly simple materials a new, timeless value. Their work embodies a natural authenticity, allowing materials to reveal their true essence. This honesty is central to their practice, ensuring that each piece is both aesthetically and ecologically considered.
