This three-seater leather sofa was designed by Georg Thams for the Danish manufacturer A/S Vejen Polstermøbelfabrik during the 1960s. The sofa is the essence of Danish modernism, striving for simplicity, functionality, and harmony of form and material. The sofa's shape is slender and proportionate. The teak frame in a warm shade of brown was designed with meticulous attention to line and ergonomics. The gently curved back and armrests seamlessly connect with the legs, creating a cohesive, sculptural whole. The soft transitions between the wood elements, characteristic of Danish design, add a visual lightness to the structure. The seat and backrest are formed by six separate cushions upholstered in milk chocolate-colored leather with evenly quilted center sections. The natural texture of the leather beautifully complements the warm shade of the teak, creating a classic yet understated combination. The entire piece is maintained in the spirit of organic modernism, where the furniture is not only practical but also visually light and user-friendly. The sofa exudes calm and balance, perfectly reflecting the philosophy of Scandinavian design, in which an object should contribute to the harmony of the interior, not dominate it.
Georg Thams is a leading Danish furniture maker. He specialized in angular designs mainly of sofas and armchairs. All his designs are characterized by sharp edges and clear shapes. They were produced by many Danish producers, e.g. Vejen Møbelfabrik and attract interest at many auctions to this day.
The sofa is in original vintage condition. It shows signs of wear, scratches and abrasions on the leather, natural patina. The center button on one seat cushion is missing. The seat height is 38 cm.
