Newly stretched on a custom stretcher and custom framed in cherry wood. Stunning image of a lone woman walking next to a solo tree in an urban setting. Very emotionally affecting.

Lecaros was a Chilean painter, engraver, and writer renowned for her instinctive artistic style that blended academic training with symbolic, intimate explorations of religiosity, death, and the feminine experience.

Born in Santiago, Chile, Lecaros studied at the Escuela de Bellas Artes of the Universidad de Chile from 1949 to 1953. Her oeuvre, prominent during the 1960s and 1970s recovery of instinctive painting in Chile, features synthetic compositions with motifs such as women, girls, trees, roosters, and suspended circles, rendered in subtle grays and tertiary colors to evoke dreamlike, funerary scenes.

Beyond visual arts, Lecaros contributed to literature with her 1984 publication Cartas a una pintora, a collection of letters advocating for women's unique creative voice and societal role.Her works have been exhibited in solo and group shows, including a 1959 individual exhibition at the Escuela Nacional de Artes Gráficas in Santiago and participation in the 1972 Pintura Instintiva Chilena at the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes.Internationally, her piece Sleeping Woman (1960) is held in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.[ See less
