Late 20th century oil on canvas painting by Jean Louisius. Depicts a pair of seated figures / Haitian laborers dressed in white surrounded by white bundles. Signed, lower right. Unframed.
Jean Bruno Louisius was born in Jeremie in the southwestern Haiti on January 18, 1952. He started drawing when he was just a child. Though he later worked as a carpenter, he moved to Port-au-Prince in 1974 and started painting. Through these years, Louisius developed a unique style of painting that he is now renowned for. His initial subjects were landscapes and still life until 1982, when he started painting market scenes.
