Early 19th-Century English Chinoiserie Toleware Tray
An early 19th-century painted tin (toleware) tray of elongated octagonal form, decorated in the Chinoiserie taste. The tray features a finely hand-painted scene depicting a pavilion with a seated figure, hanging bells, stylized architecture, exotic birds, and foliage, rendered in black line work on a warm cream ground. The border is ornamented with a repeating leaf motif, framed by a black japanned edge. The reverse is finished in black.
