This sofa, designed by Guglielmo Veronesi in the 1950s for ISA Bergamo, is part of the celebrated Perla series and is a true icon of mid-century Italian design. Its organic, sinuous forms envelop the eye with a soft, seamless silhouette, where the armrests blend seamlessly into the backrest, creating a fluid and welcoming movement. The seat is wide, deep, and inviting, designed for natural, long-lasting comfort. The tapered, light-colored wood legs, slender and slightly angled, lend lightness and a touch of Scandinavian elegance to the sofa's compact body. It is a perfect example of postwar Italian design, where functionality, refined craftsmanship, and aesthetic research come together in a timeless object capable of bringing character and warmth to any contemporary space. Our atelier restored and reupholstered the item.
Literature reference: Domus No. 274, October 1952, page 4.
Additional note: In ISA’s Domus advertisement, the Perla model was credited to “G. Veronesi.” It was long assumed that this referred to Guglielmo Veronesi. However, recent research has confirmed that the true designer was Giulia Veronesi. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
issues arising from misattribution
