Originally used as a base for an interior column, hence the hole in the center. Three sides are bevelled and one side flat, so this could also be hung and used as a shelf, as shown in image five. Or glass can be placed on top and used as a low coffee table. Both usable and sculptural. This antique base was hand made in the spirit of Wabi-Sabi, a Japanese philosophy that beauty can be found in imperfection and impermanence. It is a beauty of things modest and humble.
