The back rest tilts and the arms are extended to allow legs to rest upon. Full dimensions; 20.5″ wide x 23″ deep x 18″ seat height x 28″ arm rest x 18″ back rest height. Circa 1940. This chair was hand made in the spirit of Wabi-Sabi, a Japanese philosophy that beauty can be found in imperfection and impermanence. It is a beauty of things modest and humble. A beauty of things unconventional. It is the opposite of vulgarity. The costs of achieving this kind of minimalism are seemingly inconsistent with its mission of aesthetic humility.
