It represents a mature phase of Backhausen’s work, where strong modelling, tactile surfaces and expressive glazing are brought together in a balanced, architectural composition.

The relief is design model 4004, clearly marked on the reverse with the Søholm hallmark and form number. Executed in stoneware, the piece features deep sculptural carving and a rich, hand-applied glaze with subtle tonal variation. The layered surface creates pronounced depth and shadow, giving the relief a dynamic presence that changes with the light throughout the day.

Works by Noomi Backhausen from this period are highly regarded for their combination of artistic individuality and Søholm’s refined production standards. Each piece was hand-finished, resulting in natural variations that underline its unique character.
