A unique piece, it features a stunning … Read more a stunning, hand-sculpted terracotta candle holder in the shape of a kneeling angel. A unique piece, it features a stunning pure gold glaze, crafted using a highly skilled artisanal technique. First, a ruby-violet metallic luster was applied, similar to that used for gualdo tadino's artistic ceramics. Then, a pure gold leaf finish was applied over this luster, resulting in a shimmering gold finish in some areas, with nuances of ruby-violet in places, and subtler nuances in places. A piece of extraordinary beauty, extremely rare, and of the highest artistic quality. Made by carlo sbisà in the early 20th century, it is signed under the base with the name of his factory, "ems," hand-engraved on the terracotta.

carlo sbisà (trieste, 1899–1964) was a renowned italian artist. In the 1930s, sbisà was heavily involved in the creation of decorations for monumental works. He began to dedicate himself to sculpture after world war ii, using ceramic, terracotta, and bronze, developing an abstract expressiveness in the material. In his religious figurative works, he developed anatomical forms held within clean linear perimeters, whose flow also permeates their interior. In the early 1950s, he opened the artistic ceramics factory "sbisà ceramiche" with mirella sbisà.
