The … Read more This impressive, monumental painting, dating from the early 19th century (circa 1810–1840), is a remarkable piece of wall decoration. The work is painted in oil on thick canvas and depicts an atmospheric hunting scene with soldiers, muskets and game. The dark, weathered colours and, of course, the imposing size give the object an extraordinary appearance. The canvas is clearly worn, which only adds to its characteristic charm. Wear marks, discolouration and numerous old repairs contribute to this. Because the work has been hung up many times over the years, old nail holes are visible in the edges. We have used these to securely attach the canvas to a wooden slat with old copper nails, so that the whole thing can be hung up easily and safely. All in all, a unique, exclusive and extremely decorative object. Origin: France. 228 cm high, 315 cm wide. See less
