Rare and unique abstract oil painting on canvas, highly textured, featuring a sphere resembling a moon in a red sky, and vibrant streaks of color in both the center and bottom sections, almost seeming to represent a constellation in the universe. The sphere and the streaks of color are very thick, the paint nearly 4 millimeters thick; rather than a painting, it almost resembles a bas-relief. The rest of the background, however, is completely smooth and without any depth. The painting is signed "Damioli" on the lower right, the signature of Aldo Damioli (Milan, 1952), a Milanese painter famous for his city views. Like all artists, he went through various stylistic phases in his career, and our painting likely dates back to a period prior to his views.
Information on the artist and/or manufacturer:
Aldo Damioli was born in 1952 in Milan, where he still lives and works. He has participated in numerous important exhibitions in Italy and abroad, including: in 1999, he was among the artists at the XIII Quadriennale d'Arte in Rome; in 2000, he was among the artists in L'altra metà del cielo, curated by Alice Rubbini and Peter Weiermair at the Rupertinum in Salzburg, which continued at the Kunstsammlungen in Chemnitz, and in 2001, at the Galleria d'Arte Moderna in Bologna; and in 2010, at the Galleria d'Arte Moderna in Bologna. 2002 at the Museum of Modern Art in Budapest, and again in 1999 he participated in the exhibition Sui generis curated by Alessandro Riva; in 2004 he held a solo exhibition at Palazzo Frisacco di Tolomezzo, in the province of Udine. In 2005 he participated in the 2nd Beijing Biennial and in Fuori tema Italian feeling, on the occasion of the 14th Rome Quadrennial; in 2006 he participated in Ironica – The lightness of irony, curated by Valerio Dehò and Elena Pontiggia at the Galleria del Gruppo di Credito Valtellinese in Milan. In 2011 he also participated in the 54th Venice Biennial, in the Italian pavilion, and in 2012 he participated in the Italy-China Biennial, at the Villa Reale in Monza.
