Antique, British, Silver Sterling "Mesh" Golf Ball Ashtray / Catchall 1929
Sterling mesh golf ball ashtray and matchstick holder made by C and N in 1929.
Crisford and Norris.
Dented up, but ready for more in your man-cave / garage!
Dated 1929, from the British silversmith firm Crisford & Norris (Birmingham, England).
Crafted to mimic the square mesh dimple pattern(which had evolved from earlier bramble or gutta-percha designs to more modern dimpled versions), common on golf balls from the 1920s–1930s (like certain Dunlop or other vintage balls).
Ball is a little loose on stand or base but secure.
Purpose — Functions as both an ashtray and a cigarette/cigar stand/catchall.
Whimsical desk or table accessories during the interwar period, when golf boomed in popularity (especially in Britain) and smoking was ubiquitous.
A collectible in the categories of antique silver novelties, golf memorabilia, and vintage smoking accessories.
