This is the real deal. This heavy metal armillary sphere sun dial is complete with its original heavy iron stand. Armillary trace their origin to both Ancient Greece and China. Their spherical framework of rings center on the Earth and Sun and represent celestial longitude and latitude.
This beautiful structure likely dates to the middle of the last century and has survived the elements with only some slight surface rust you’ll see in the photos. The arrow that transverses the sphere has a slight warp near the quill and will unscrew/withdraw for ease of shipping.
We have elected not to refurbish the piece as many garden designers make good use of this kind of naturally weathered patina.
From ground to top, the Armillary and base are approximately 51” tall. The bottom of the base is 9” square. The base alone is 26” tall. The Armillary sphere is 16” across and 25” tall. The transverse arrow is 25” from quill to arrow tip.
The black paint may not be original but there were no immediate signs of repainting.

The piece is heavy and stable on its base. The sphere connects to its immediate base with a domed screw as seen in photos. At this time there is slight movement indicating you may want to tighten the screw. However, the sphere is secure as it is. It will be shipped as is. less
