This stones soft warm colors are a perfect contrast for the deep color of the fossils. The 50-million-year-old fossils are from the Early Eocene and were discovered in our private quarry in southwestern Wyoming part of the Green River Formation. This mural is part of a limited series in which we are exploring the use of Kinstugi to highlight various features within our fossil stone. The ancient art of Kinstugi originates from 15th century Japan. It is a practice that embraces and celebrates imperfections by using gold silver or platinum to mend breakages. Inspired by Kinstugi as both an art form and a philosophy this fossil mural aims to directly engage with the natural fractures in the fossil-filled limestone layers from the Green River Formation. This mural features unique lines emphasized with a 24-karat gold leaf that beautifully cascades along the richly textured stone reflecting our continued exploration of the interaction between art and nature and creating a deeper human connection to the natural beauty of the fossil. The mural is finished with a handmade Wenge wood frame and is backed in wood with a built-in French cleat. It ships in a custom wood crate fully insured against loss or damage.
