This acrylic painting on 400 g/m² Fabriano “Pittura” paper is part of a series of works created for Furtif, a French magazine, around the theme of “Lost Worlds.” In Nature Fluorescente, Nico Pearleyes constructs a landscape where perception oscillates between abstraction and figuration, inviting the viewer into a space where imagination and reality overlap without clear hierarchy. The composition unfolds through glowing, almost phosphorescent colors that illuminate organic forms and rolling terrain. Trees appear simplified and stylized, their volumes hovering between symbolic signs and natural elements. Vertical architectural markers punctuate the landscape, introducing a subtle tension between the constructed and the organic, while fluid clouds stretch across the sky, reinforcing the sensation of a world governed by its own internal logic. Pearleyes approaches the idea of a “lost world” not as a vanished place, but as a mode of perception. Here, reality is not fixed; it emerges through the interaction of memory, sensation, and imagination. The fluorescent palette heightens this ambiguity, transforming the landscape into an almost mental projection—at once familiar and estranged. The absence of human figures reinforces the sense of suspension, as if the environment itself were the protagonist. Rooted in a visual language shaped by Renaissance structure, Korean artistic traditions, skateboard culture, Post-Impressionist color, and Pop Surrealism, Pearleyes’ work consistently explores the unstable boundary between the seen and the imagined. In Nature Fluorescente, this inquiry takes the form of a luminous terrain where abstraction does not negate reality but becomes one of its essential components. The painting proposes that imagination is not an escape from the world, but a fundamental element through which a world becomes intelligible. Dimensions: 25 x 35 cm unframed, 31.2 x 41.2 cm framed.
