Dating … Read more This antique stone trough is carved from solid Volvic volcanic stone, originating from the Puy-de-Dôme region in central France. Dating from the 18th to the 19th century, the piece displays the characteristic texture, natural patina and tool marks associated with traditional rural stonework from this area.

The rectangular basin is entirely watertight and was originally used as a functional trough. It now serves as a sculptural and architectural object suited for both interior and exterior settings. Its substantial weight, thick stone walls and naturally worn surfaces give the piece a strong, authentic presence.

The trough measures approximately 37 cm in depth, 75 cm in width and 26 cm in height. The walls are around 5 to 7 cm thick and the weight is approximately 75 kg. The piece is structurally sound, with age-appropriate wear that reflects its long history.

This is a rare example of historic French Volvic stone craftsmanship, ideal for garden design, courtyards, entryways, rustic interiors or architectural installations.
