A rare kinetic light sculpture attributed to the artist Daniel Grobet (1936-2017). The artist created a series of minimalist kinetic art candleholder-objects known as 'Attrape-Feux' between 1976 and 1998 in his atelier in Bagnols-sur-Cèze in Southern France.
Daniel Grobet's sculptural work represents his enthusiasm for balance, movement and shadows.
Executed in black lacquered wrought iron, this large poetic sculpture is composed of 14 suspended candle arms, balanced with low hanging weights and arranged in a rhythmic vertical structure.
The process of burning candles is intended to alter the balance of the minimalist iron structure. Alternatively, the angle of the candle wreath can be varied as desired and also the height of its stand can be adjusted.
Balancing between functional object and sculptural installation, this impressive piece exemplifies late-20th-century French experimental design. A striking statement object with strong architectural and spatial presence.
Total height of the object without candles: 128 cm up to 200 cm This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
issues arising from misattribution
