The table was likely made in New England, and the checkerboard top is surrounded by beautifully figured tiger maple. This is a wonderful country table with an inlaid 8x8 checkerboard / chessboard top. The table rests on a turned baluster form column supported by three gently shaped cabriole legs with pad feet. While modest in execution and not overly sophisticated, the base has pleasing proportions and reflects the honest craftsmanship of a country made piece. The tilt-top mechanism is intact and functional. The underside reveals period construction, with the legs dovetailed into the column and reinforced with copper tabs which serve to reinforce or strengthen the joints. This table would make a wonderful accent or occasional table in any home & its combination of decorative inlay, figured maple, and untouched country character makes it especially appealing to collectors of early American furniture. When the top is flipped up like in our first image the table measures 29 1/4” wide x 22” deep x 41 1/4” tall. When the top is locked down into gaming position the table measures 29 1/4” wide x 29 1/4” deep x 26” tall. See less
