This is a traditional Dogon mask from Mali, West Africa. These masks are typically made of wood and used in rituals called dama ceremonies, which are performed to guide the souls of the deceased to the world of the dead. The mask's design, with its V-shaped ridge above the orbital cavities, often represents an animal, such as a monkey, or symbolically represents the arrangement of the universe to the initiated.
It is believed to be late 19th century and has the associated issues with age but displays very well.
