This exceptionally rare tea cup and saucer belongs to the highly sought-after Rosamunda series, designed by Arthur Percy for Upsala-Ekeby Gefle in Sweden during the mid-20th century.
While the Rosamunda decoration is well known, tea cups were produced in significantly smaller numbers than standard coffee cups, making surviving examples extremely scarce today. As a result, tea cup sets from this series are considered among the most elusive and desirable formats for collectors of Scandinavian modern ceramics.
The design features Percy’s iconic spiral floral motif in vibrant yellow, framed by stylised green leaves and dark blue stems. The decoration is engraved and applied beneath the glaze (cravyrdekor under glasyren), resulting in a soft surface character and excellent long-term durability. The proportions are elegant and refined, with a generous bowl and a well-balanced handle, paired with a harmoniously scaled saucer.
Arthur Percy is regarded as one of Sweden’s most important ceramic designers of the 20th century, and his work for Upsala-Ekeby Gefle is highly collected internationally. Rare Rosamunda tea cups such as this are seldom offered on the open market and are primarily acquired by advanced collectors.
