Pair of louis xv style gilt bronze wall sconces, known as "parrot" sconces, circa 1930.
each sconce features a richly sculpted parrot perched on a leafy branch. The bronze work is distinguished by the fineness of the chasing: detailed plumage, partially spread wings, and a long, tapering tail, giving an impression of movement and liveliness.
the composition is enlivened by asymmetrical scrolls, foliage, and tendrils, forming three arms of light per sconce. The arms terminate in bobeches and cups decorated with floral motifs in relief, characteristic of high-quality decorative pieces of this period.
the original gilding has a beautiful, even, and warm antique patina, highlighting the reliefs and attesting to the age of the pieces.
the wiring will likely need to be checked, as the sockets are damaged.
