This charming early 20th-century American watercolor depicts a quiet rural road leading toward a small village church, framed by mature trees, wooden fences, and modest homes. The composition conveys a peaceful, pastoral atmosphere, with soft washes of green, ochre, and muted earth tones typical of American regional watercolor work of the period.
The artwork is hand-signed by the artist in pencil at the lower right and titled “Going to Church” at the lower left. It is presented in its original period frame, featuring a green mat with hand-drawn white liner and a painted wood frame with age-appropriate wear that complements the artwork beautifully.
The reverse retains its original paper backing, showing expected wear and patina consistent with age, as well as a period marking dating the piece to 1917. This untouched backing adds to the authenticity and historical integrity of the artwork.
A warm, evocative piece ideal for traditional, farmhouse, Americana, or collected interiors.
