I recently acquired a small collection of original kurt polter paintings. They came directly out of a manhattan estate where they had been wrapped up and stored in the closet for many years. For those not familiar with the artist, I have included his biography below. The paintings all seem to be during his time when he was in europe. I think they are both italian scenes. This one definitely is as it has the original label with the title and the artist's address in rome taped to the backing as well as an original gallery sticker from rome as well. A wonderful mixed media of gouache and watercolor on paper laid down on paper board backing. A large painting measuring 19 1/2 x 27 1/2 inches. Signed lower left corner. Painting is in excellent clean condition. Looks like perhaps a few very minor scuffs but otherwise as painted condition. Original matte shows some soiling and warping as well as the original frame shows some issues. Really this painting would benefit greatly from a new frame. Frame measures 26 x 33 1/2 inches. For those not familiar with the artist, his biography from a high end gallery who sells his work reads: " kurt polter was born in 1914 in kassel, germany. His parents were the proprietors of the world famous kassel hotel. His love of art kept him from entering the family business and he enrolled instead at the ecole des beaux arts in paris. His mentor was yves brayer and he studied with him for eight years. In 1967 he had a one man exhibition at galerie juarez in florida. He is known for his genre, florals and children. The artist had a great following of important people that collected his works, some of whom were: merle oberon, charlton heston, william wyler, esther williams, princess paula de liege, peter ustinov, prince moulay abdoula, mrs. John winslow, contessa b’miani, among others." less
