Attributable to the circle of Jean-Baptiste Perronneau, a famous French painter who created similar paintings, this unsigned work is in the Romantic style.


Final considerations on the object:
The two strong points of this painting are the woman's pose, which is sensual and suggestive, gazing at herself in the mirror, an extremely rare trait. Most 18th-century paintings depict ladies simply seated, staring at the painter, almost expressionless, while ours gazes into the mirror with a lascivious, vain, and provocative gaze. The painting's second strong point is the light. The lady's complexion is particularly luminous compared to the rest of the painting; it seems as if a light is shining on her, making her appear so radiant. Furthermore, ladies holding an object in their hands, or portrayed while performing an action, such as reading, playing a song, or writing, are rarer and much more sought-after than the simpler and more common ones. Ours with the mirror is particularly rare, a true gem for art lovers and collectors. Also beautiful are the pearl necklace, the lace of the dress, and the red highlights on the woman's cheeks, the luminous pearl earrings, the generous, extremely sensual cleavage, and the subtle smile.
