The sitter is portrayed wearing a formal Victorian jacket, waistcoat, and bow tie, with crisp detailing to the costume and sensitive modelling of the facial features. The bust is raised on an integral square Parian socle, the front inscribed “GLADSTONE.” Executed in Parian ware—a fine unglazed porcelain developed in the mid-19th century to emulate marble—this bust exemplifies the popular Victorian taste for commemorative portrait sculpture intended for domestic, institutional, or educational settings.
