Leather bindings, gilt-decorated spines, marbled boards, endpapers and edges. Boston edition of Shakespeare's works, illustrated with engraved portrait and title page in Volume I and 37 engraved plates. Book plates in all volumes read "Henry and Eva Purdy". Marbled boards have color loss and interiors of most volumes have heavy foxing, some damp staining on covers and interior pages (particularly volumes VI through VIII). Volume VI has torn corners on inside front cover page. This set needs some love and restoration, but the bindings are largely intact and this is still an exceptionally handsome addition to your antiquarian book collection. The asking price reflects deficiencies in condition. This is a rare set, and has sold elsewhere for close to 3 to 5 times the price. See less
